2019 Summer Recap: Did I Check Everything On My Bucket List?
You know how Instagram/Facebook shows you memories of posts that you shared a year (or years) ago to the date? They are truly a reality check for how fast time flies. I just saw one pop up from the end of last September where I talked about how it was about to get cold in Chicago (sigh). As another fantastic #SummertimeChi comes to an end, I thought I would share how I did against the bucket list I shared a few months back.
If you haven’t seen my original list - click here to get caught up, then come back here to see how I did!
What I Accomplished On My List:
1. Went to Punta Cana
I decided that I’m going to create a vlog to recap the trip so stay tuned- better late than never right? SPOILER ALERT: It was an incredible trip! :)
2. Visited a Chicago Beach with Friends
It actually took us two tries to make this happen due to some unfortunate weather the first go around - but we made it! And it was nice to relax and at one of the many beaches Chicago has to offer.
3. Had boozy brunch at Fremont - TWICE!
As if one Fremont brunch/day party isn’t enough, I went twice this year with different groups of friends- and had a blast both times! Here are photos of me laughing hysterically both times to prove it :
4. Got Some Wedding Planning Done
I’m not going to lie and say I’m probably a bit behind where I should be (I kept myself busy with everything on this list!), but Roosevelt and I have made some pretty significant decisions around the big day. Stay tuned for more updates here on the blog!
5. Took Engagement Photos in LA
It’s always a great time shooting with Harbor Grace Photography, and the photos turned out beautifully. I’ll be sharing a full post soon with a lot more of the photos, but in the meantime, I’ve shared a few on my Instagram!
6. Went to Disneyland with Roosevelt
There will be another vlog heading your way! Another spoiler - Disney did not disappoint! You can tell how much we love all things Disney, from posts like this.
7. Went to a Cubs Game
Thanks to my friend Amber, I got to hang out at Wrigley Field earlier this Summer! But let’s be honest here, I really went for a Chicago Dog & a Beer- that’s what I should have really put on the bucket list!
8. Tried 10 New Restaurants In Chicago
I wasn’t concerned about completing this task because going out to eat in Chicago is one of my favorite activities! Here’s where I went:
Moneygun - Get the cheese fries. Do it.
Porter Kitchen & Deck - The food was great, but I was not impressed by the service.
Cabra - Stephanie Izard’s latest restaurant here in Chicago definitely doesn’t disappoint on the food, but the atmosphere was my favorite part of this restaurant. The decor is stunning, and there are incredible views of the city!
Lazy Bird - Located in the basement of the same building as Cabra, Lazy Bird is more of a speakeasy than a restaurant, but I wanted to include it here because I really enjoyed the cocktails and atmosphere!
Pacific Standard Time - This restaurant recently received a Michelin Star, and is definitely worth a try. I loved the Cali vibes in this restaurant!
The Smith - Gorgeous decor and delicious food! It’s a bit loud in there, so I wouldn’t recommend for an intimate conversation or first date.
Deveraux - This rooftop restaurant offers gorgeous views of the city and has a swimming pool in the middle! I definitely recommend the Garlic Parmesan Fries.
Noyane - Another rooftop! In Chicago, Summer = Rooftops & Patios. Noyane had delicious Japanese cuisine, but the highlight was definitely the boozy sno-cones!
Aba - Stunning decor both inside and outside on the rooftop. They offered shareable plates, so it was a perfect spot for brunch with the girls!
The Signature Room - Roosevelt took me here for my birthday dinner. It wasn’t our favorite meal in the world, but the views from the 96th floor seriously cannot be beat.
What I Didn’t Quite Get To:
Take a Water Taxi to Chinatown
Ride a Divvy Bike on Chicago’s 606
While I didn’t accomplish everything on my list, 8 out of 10 isn’t bad! I also had some incredible experiences that weren’t even on the list. What was the highlight of your summer? Let me know in the comments!
